We wanted to start this series with someone that has been with us for nearly 12 years. Introducing: Laura Walker, Head of Property Management
1. How has your career developed with Bradley Hall?
I started as an office junior doing administration based worked initially. After a short while I was keen to learn more and began assisting surveyors and doing an Access to Higher Education course in the evenings to get onto the part time Real Estate Degree. I completed my degree is February 2020 with a 2:1 and later that year I passed my APC to become chartered. Most recently I was promoted to Head of Property Management in April 2022 heading up a team managing properties across the region.
2. What does it take to make a good property manager?
Property Manager – organisational skills, strong negotiation skills and the ability to deal with people. Whether these are individual tenants of rented residential accommodation or the CEO of a business, we need to have communication skills that cover all types of scenarios.
3. What’s a common myth about property management?
Some people think it is boring, but its really not. No two days are the same, it keeps you on your toes and you get to meet lots of different types of people.
4. Who or where do you draw professional inspiration from?
I have my own want to succeed, but I think I’ve learned that from the people I have worked around for so long. I am passionate about my career and I think that makes the difference, when you love what you do.
5. What advice would you give to your younger self?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s the 5 by 5 rule, if it wont matter in 5 years, don’t spend 5 minutes on it now. I wish I could still take the advice now!
