Bradley Hall is a full-service property firm with more than 30 years’ worth of experience across the North East and Yorkshire. However, we are so much more than that, we spoke to a number of members of the team about their career journey at Bradley Hall, from entry level positions including graduates, to titles such as Head of Property Management, Senior Property Executive, Associate Director, Operations Director, and even Group CEO.
Q. What has your career journey looked like while at Bradley Hall?
A. Laura Walker, Head of Property Management: “I started at Bradley Hall when I was only 18. I came in as an admin assistant, and quite quickly our Group CEO, Neil had given me a few tasks to do to help me progress, and after a little while he said that I needed to do a degree and go to university. I had to do two years at college first, then I did a four and a half year distance learning degree with University College of Estate Management, and then after that I went straight on to do my APC which I did in eight months, all throughout covid as well which was slightly stressful, but it was definitely worth it.
“Then I was put up for nomination for Young Surveyor of the Year with the RICS, I won that in 2020, and in April 2022 I was promoted to the Head of Property Management. I’ve gone from bottom of the ranks as an Admin Assistant and have worked my way up to Senior Surveying positions, and then up to head of department, which has been over about 11 years.”
A. Joseph l’Anson, Associate Director: “When I first started at Bradley Hall, I left university on the Friday and started working at Bradley Hall on the Monday, and it was straight in at the deep end.
“I worked as a general practice surveyor for nine and a half years at Bradley Hall, and that means that every day is varied but typically I work in the commercial agency department and the property management team. When I first started I was working directly underneath one of the directors for a few years, and then I went on to become a chartered surveyor. I had a lot of support behind that, and a lot of knowledge which has been passed on to me which I am very grateful for, and now I’m trying to give back to the company.
“Throughout that period, I’ve then gone on to be a Senior Surveyor, and Associate Director, and I’ve seen a lot of people come through the firm but have equally worked alongside people throughout that whole time period as well. That’s where I am today, and I continue to try and grow the company, and better myself all the time.”
A. Lauren Gill, Senior Property Executive:“I started at Bradley Hall when I was 16 as an apprentice. I then got promoted to Assistant Property Executive, then Property Executive, and then last year I was promoted to Senior Property Executive and that was all within five years. “The job role has got a lot busier, I have a lot more responsibility, and this year I am training to be a valuer, to value residential properties to get them on the market – who knows what will be next.”
A. James Thompson, Chartered Building Surveyor: “I started at Bradley Hall in August 2018, that was straight after I graduated from Northumbria University, so I was a Graduate Building Surveyor for just over two years and was helped through my APC by Bradley Hall through their scheme for graduates.
“I have been chartered now for about 18 months, so I have naturally progressed into having more ownership across the Newcastle side of building surveying and have taken on a number of extra graduates. I’m looking forward to developing them, in the same ways that I was.”
A. Carl O’Brien, Associate Director: “I started out when we were on Grey Street, and I became a registered valuer while I was at Bradley Hall. It was just a team of two when I started, and to see the team grow so much, it has been great to be a fundamental part of that.”
A. Callum Armstrong, Chartered Surveyor: “I stared as a placement student in Durham working with my colleague, Joseph I’Anson. I graduated from university, and then I took a graduate role in the land team, and then took it over when I became chartered to a team of many.”
