They do this by assessing the work and objections from adjoining owners, and then drawing up an impartial Party Wall Award. This legal document outlines what work can be done, how and when it will be done, who will pay for it, and any additional work that needs to be done. The surveyor also has statutory powers to make binding decisions about the right to work, the time and manner of the work, and other matters that may arise.
