A PLOT of land in the heart of a popular Sunderland village ‘left to wreck and ruin’ is to be transformed after standing vacant for over 25 years.
North East property developer Glenanne Limited has secured planning permission for the construction of three new homes in the heart of Ryhope village.
Standing opposite the village green and just a short drive from the A19 and Sunderland city centre, the homes will offer house hunters a unique opportunity to enjoy the best of city and rural living.
The transformation of the site, which was formerly home to the Salutation Inn pub until the building’s demolition several years ago, will see two three-bedroom semi-detached houses and one four-bedroom detached house brought to market, each of which will be ‘built to the highest standards’.
Darryl Cullerton, director at Glenanne Limited said: “We were absolutely delighted to hear that we had been granted planning permission for this project.
“As a family business rooted in the city, it’s fantastic to be able to work on a project so close to home which will have such a huge impact on the local community.
“Ryhope Village Green is a desirable area until you get to the corner Cliff View where this site has been an eyesore for the best part of two decades.
“These new homes will be meticulously designed to capture the character of the historic village while creating new, high quality housing for residents wanting to stay in the area and raise a family. We can’t wait to get started.”
Glenanne Limited submitted its plans for the development last year with planning chiefs approving the proposals during Full Council last month [28 June], under the condition that the dwellings are built within three years.
Leading North of England property agency Bradley Hall has been appointed to market the properties and the firm is confident that the strong demand for family homes in Ryhope will see the properties gather a lot of attention.
Helen Wall, Director – Sunderland at Bradley Hall, said: “The site is in a fantastic location within the Ryhope Conservation Area, on a main gateway into Sunderland city centre.
“The homes will be constructed to complement the simple rustic character of the surrounding 18th century buildings, facing the village green. It will be fantastic to see this vacant site being brought back into use, whilst providing much needed housing within the vicinity.
“The site benefits from amazing transport links to the A19 affording convenient regional road network access to the North and the South of the region, in addition to Sunderland city centre within less than 10 minutes. We’re confident that they’ll prove very popular.
“Add to that the fact that they’re in the heart of the village in an elevated position, just a short walk from the Ryhope beach and dene and it really will provide a unique opportunity for those wanting to find their next family home. We’d encourage anyone interested to get in touch swiftly to register early interest and avoid missing out.”
