GREEN LIGHT FOR QUAYSIDE HOTEL
The Grade II-listed Eldon Chambers will soon be converted, giving the four storey building a new lease of life, having only ever served as office space since its construction more than 180 years ago.
Built in 1833, Eldon Chambers started life as a merchant traders' office, before being refurbished and sub-divided to create separate offices in the 1920s.
Newcastle-based interior designers Collective Design put forward the successful planning application, detailing how the ground floor could be taken up with the restaurant and bar, while upper floors would have rooms boasting views over the River Tyne.
Chartered surveyor and property specialist Bradley Hall is now marketing the leisure accommodation for lease.
Bradley Hall has been marketing the empty building on behalf of its owners since law firm Blackett Hart & Pratt LLP left to move elsewhere. The legal firm, which trades as BHP Law, quit the building during a major restructure which saw it relocate elsewhere in the city centre.
